When studying Art at Mary Baldwin (my alma mater), I felling in love the printmaking process of copper plate etching. Since that time, I have loved exploring this etching technique by way of jewelry design. Using my own sketchbook imagery, each brass or copper metal sheet is initially cleaned & prepped, then I draw directly onto the metal with a special permanent ink that bonds to the surface, acting as a "resist." The metal plate is then 'floated' on a surface of acidic ferrite chloride, at which time the magic happens. The end result is a lovely embossed design (kind of like a metal stamp). to finish the piece, I use my jeweler's saw and hand-cut out the desired silhouette or form, then use cold-connecting techniques to attach the each design to a hammered sterling silver pendant or cuff.
